Reguilon's friendship with sporting superstar

Manchester United defender Sergio Reguilon has discussed his close friendship with tennis superstar Carlos Alcarez, during an exclusive Fans' Q&A.

The feature, which was first published in official magazine Inside United, allows supporters to send in their queries on any variety of topic they choose.

Sam, from the United Kingdom, said he had heard Sergio was a big tennis fan, so who was his favourite player?

Having watched fellow Spaniard Alcarez in action, and holidayed with the Wimbledon champion, there was only really ever going to be one answer.

Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcarez has taken the tennis world by storm.

“Well, I have good relations with my boy Alcarez," explained our left-back, who is on loan from Tottenham Hotspur. "I follow the tennis for him now more.

"Before, I followed but not like now. I try to watch every game he plays. We are always in touch and well, we are talking about the games he has and the games I have.

"We are always talking about these things.”

The defender may be biased but he has no doubts Alcarez can usurp Novak Djokovic, the man he beat in London earlier this year, as the undisputed best male tennis player in the world.

“Well, for me, he is still young, he knows that but he has the capacity to be the number one in history," insisted Reguilon. "For me, that’s my opinion. My personal opinion. I know we are friends but it’s my personal opinion!"

Alcarez is only 20 years old but the Wimbledon triumph was his second Grand Slam title, after winning the US Open a year earlier.

He is tipped to dominate the game in the future and can count on the support of his friend, while also keeping close tabs on how Sergio is getting on at Old Trafford, following his positive introduction into the team.
