United celebrate winning the Treble in 1999.

Treble Reunion: Sir Alex to return to United dugout

Friday 15 February 2019 11:30

The countdown is on as Manchester United Foundation will host a Treble Reunion match at Old Trafford on 26 May 2019, to celebrate 20 years since the club made football history in 1999.

In 99 days’ time, the game will be held exactly 20 years since that illustrious night at the Nou Camp, when United beat Bayern Munich 2-1 to complete the Treble, a feat still yet to be achieved by any other English club.

Now the two teams will meet once again in an anniversary match to raise funds for Manchester United Foundation.

The Treble Reunion gives fans the chance to relive the magic of 1999.

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed he will return to manage the Reds, taking his former seat in the Old Trafford dugout and hoping to once again lead his team to victory against the German side.

“I’m really looking forward to what will be a special day at Old Trafford,” said Sir Alex. “It will be great to catch up with some familiar faces and a great opportunity to support the work of Manchester United Foundation.”

Richard Arnold, Manchester United’s group managing director and Foundation chairman, commented: "The ’99 Treble is one of the most important and historic moments in Manchester United’s story, with a team made up of some true legends of the game.

"The final against Bayern Munich is a night etched in the memory of all our fans and, for so many of those names to be returning to Old Trafford to celebrate the anniversary of that momentous achievement, is testament to Manchester United Foundation and the work it does in our community.”
