Ole reveals team news for Granada tie

Wednesday 07 April 2021 13:29

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update on his plans for the Europa League tie at Granada.

The Reds are set to travel to Spain for the first leg of the quarter-final assignment on Thursday night and have been boosted by Marcus Rashford's availability.

The England forward was withdrawn after scoring in the 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion but is fit enough to make the travelling squad.

"I can't disclose my team now," Ole said. "We're not going to do that. Marcus is travelling and we have to make a decision tomorrow if he starts or is on the bench. I don't think he'll play the 90 minutes.

“Marcus is okay-ish. He's trained this morning. He's available to be selected, as I said, either as a sub or a starter. Juan [Mata] is back training as is Alex [Telles], so we're looking stronger definitely. We didn't lose anyone last weekend against Brighton."

Eric Bailly is still out after testing positive for COVID-19, with the manager telling club media: "He needs a negative test before he can come back to us. It'll take the time that it takes unfortunately. That's the world we live in at the moment and we've got to take the precautionary measures. Hopefully, Eric is still feeling okay The last time I spoke to him, he was alright."

When it comes to choosing from David De Gea and Dean Henderson in goal, the boss added: "With the keepers, it's the same. I have two great keepers."

Ole was also asked if Amad could start and replied: "Of course he is [getting closer]. He's getting used to our standards. He did well when he played 45 minutes against Milan and we'll see him gradually start games. It might come tomorrow and it might come in another game.

“We pick a team to win each game. This is just the first half of the tie. We have big games coming up and that's always a conundrum. Who can play for 90 minutes? Who can play four or five games on the bounce? Who needs a rest? We always have a check in the morning to see how everyone is feeling."

GRANADA TEAM NEWS UPDATE

Coach Diego Martinez held his press conference to preview the game on Wednesday and ruled three players out.

Luis Milla, Alberto Soro and Neyder Lozano will be missing, with Martinez saying: "We cannot confuse the desire that they are available with that they are prepared to compete at the highest level. If it is not for Thursday, they are for Sunday [in La Liga] or for next Thursday. It's one thing to be available and another to be at full capacity and with the best performance for a top-level match."

Veteran striker Roberto Soldado, who had a spell with Tottenham in the Premier League, is expected to lead the line for Granada.
