What's happening at United this week?

Monday 15 November 2021 07:00

With World Cup qualifiers wrapping up this week, we're set for a busy seven-day period at Manchester United, with five games coming up for the club's teams.

The Premier League makes its return following the international break when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's United travel to Vicarage Road for an away clash with Watford on Saturday.

United Women are also in action, twice in the space of four days, in the Continental Cup and the Women's Super League, while our Academy sides are set for matches as we enter the weekend.

Throw a press conference, some birthdays and anniversaries into the mix as well, and you've got yourself another hectic week for the Reds.

Here's how the next seven days shape up...

MONDAY

The week starts with the final dramatic stages of the World Cup qualifiers, where the fates of several international United stars will be sealed. England (Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw) travel to San Marino for a 19:45 GMT kick-off to round off the qualification process for the Three Lions. Scott McTominay’s Scotland take on Denmark and Ethan Galbraith’s Northern Ireland will face Italy in their final group game (also 19:45 GMT).

Monday also marks 13 years since Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 100th United goal, against Stoke City at Old Trafford in a 5-0 win. A young Danny Welbeck also found the back of the net with a brilliant long-range strike in what was a dream debut for the Academy graduate.

TUESDAY

The international games finish on Tuesday before the rest of the Reds travel back to Manchester to prepare for Saturday’s match against Watford.

Eric Bailly and Ivory Coast face Cameroon at 19:00 GMT, while France, without an injured Paul Pogba, will test themselves against Finland 45 minutes later. Also at 19:45 GMT, Wales, with Dylan Levitt in the squad, will face the tough task of Belgium. In South America, a big clash between Argentina and Fred’s Brazil ends the group phase, with the Selecao already qualified for next year’s World Cup.

We would also like to wish United Women goalkeeper Emily Ramsey and club legend Paul Scholes the happiest of birthdays. Ramsey turns 21 while our former midfielder turns 47.

WEDNESDAY

Marc Skinner’s side welcome rivals Manchester City to Leigh Sports Village on Wednesday in the Continental Cup. The clash between the Reds and Blues starts at 19:00 GMT and tickets are on sale here.

Young midfielder Dylan Levitt, currently on loan at Dundee United, turns 21 on what is also Nani’s 35th birthday. Happy birthday, Dylan and Nani!

THURSDAY

The Reds will put in the hard work at Carrington as focus turns to the weekend’s Premier League clash with the Hornets.

In what is a week packed with birthdays, legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel celebrates his 58th birthday as well. Have a brilliant day, Peter!

FRIDAY

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will face the media for his usual pre-match press conference ahead of our trip to Vicarage Road. The boss’s preview of Saturday’s encounter is shown on MUTV from 13:30 GMT on Friday.

Our Under-23s make the journey to Derby for a Premier League 2 clash as we enter the weekend. The match kicks off at 19:00 GMT.

Friday also marks the 30th anniversary of the club’s first European Super Cup triumph, over Red Star Belgrade, in 1991.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will answer the journalists' question in his Friday press conference.

SATURDAY

Ole’s Reds will battle it out with Ranieri’s Hornets for three league points at Vicarage Road in a 15:00 GMT kick-off. You can keep up to date with the match in our Official App as well as catch our Matchday Live programme on MUTV from 13:55 GMT.

Before that, our Under-18s make the trip to Burnley. The encounter with the Clarets starts at 11:00 GMT.

SUNDAY

A busy week comes to an end with United Women’s clash against Arsenal at Leigh Sports Village in the Women’s Super League. The WSL encounter starts at 12:15 GMT and you can buy your tickets for the match here.
