Collyer needs to be ready

Erik ten Hag feels Toby Collyer needs to be ready to make an impact in the Manchester United first team, if called upon.

The 20-year-old midfielder has been selected in a matchday squad for the first team and is among the substitutes for the visit of Fulham on Saturday.

After regularly training with the senior group recently, Collyer is one of four youth products on the bench, while there are also four more in the XI, including maiden starter Omari Forson.

The boss makes two enforced changes to his XI and there's a new face on the bench.

"He showed some good stuff and he showed some potential," Ten Hag told MUTV before kick-off. "And so we have some problems. But yeah, it's, for him, an opportunity to be involved.

"He has to be ready to come on because you are on the bench to come on."

The opportunity for Forson to start, in what promises to be a fluid front three, is also one to relish for the teenager.

"It's because he deserves a position," explained the manager. "Lately, he's performing very well. Over the last half a year, he worked very hard, showed his progression, and when he came on against Wolves, against Newport, he had some impact.

"For instance, with the goal of Kobbie Mainoo, where he had the link-up where they could run behind. Yeah, that is what we expect from him. He showed reliability and now he has got his chance and now he has to to pick his chance."
