Coaching within schools

Young footballers take part in United's Football in the Community programme

Coaching within schools

Football in the Community offers structured coaching sessions within primary schools throughout Greater Manchester. The programme delivers to schools in the local authorities of Salford, Manchester, Trafford, Tameside, Stockport and Oldham.

Coaching sessions are geared around children developing at their own pace through guided discovery, and instruction, with a predominant theme of football.

Throughout the six to eight week block of coaching received, schools can expect the following development opportunities for all students:

- Master basic motor-movements, whilst developing running, jumping, hopping, skipping and throwing

- Developing the key core skills of agility, balance, and co-ordination

- Working both individually and as a team

- Experience of invasion games

- Basic knowledge of football, playing the game and an understanding of the rules.

All schools are invited to attend one of our Football Events based at either the Aon Training Complex, Carrington or The Cliff Training Complex, Salford.

Schools competition structure

Football in the Community also offers a structured schools competition programme for Year 1, 2 and 3s. These events are held at The Cliff Training Ground and give schools the opportunity to play against each other and qualify for the Football in the Community Cup Finals, held late in the academic year.

The 2017/18 Community Cup will feature schools from the boroughs of Manchester, Salford, Trafford, Tameside, Oldham, Rochdale, Wigan and Warrington. For more information, please email scott.harris@manutd.co.uk.
