Young footballers take part in United's Football in the Community programme

Grassroots football within clubs

Throughout the school holidays, Manchester United Football in the Community provides free-of-charge grassroots club coaching days with FA Charter Standard clubs across the North West.

The aims of our grassroots days are to support and work with players, coaches and volunteers of local grassroots football clubs to create a fun and enjoyable coaching environment, work with players both individually and collectively, as well as develop the coaches associated with the club.

To date, Football in the Community has delivered more than 200 coaching days. The sessions (detailed below) allow us and the wider club to work closer with grassroots clubs within the key area of player recruitment, whilst working with a vast array of young players to pass on the Manchester United values.

A typical Grassroots Club day looks like:

- 9.30am: Arrival and registration; Introduction to the Manchester United philosophy
10am to 12pmFun-based technique work; '1v1s'
12pm to 12.45pmLunch
1pm to 3pmLearning through matches/competitions

The above days are free of charge and held both at The Cliff Training Complex, Salford, and also at clubs who can accommodate the programme using their own facilities. For more information, please email andrew.basterfield@manutd.co.uk.

Throughout the year, Football in the Community hosts Coach Education Days, with specific themes suggested by the coaches themselves, and delivered by key members of the football club. The purpose of the days are to highlight and give an insight into the philosophy of Manchester United Football Club, how the club works with players and to help develop grassroots coaches' individual needs.
