Early team news for West Ham encounter

Thursday 03 December 2020 15:00

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be assessing the state of his squad following the Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

There is no time to dwell on the misfortune suffered in the 3-1 loss at Old Trafford, with a trip to London next on the agenda, and West Ham United providing the opposition on Saturday (17:30 GMT kick-off).

The match will be the first in the Premier League with supporters since March, as 2,000 home fans are able to attend.

Fred's suspension for his red card, of course, only counts in Europe so he will miss next Tuesday's final Group H game against RB Leipzig. Axel Tuanzebe, however, is available again after his one-match ban in the Champions League for accumulating three yellow cards.

Marcus Rashford is a doubt for the clash with David Moyes's Hammers as he is being troubled by a shoulder problem. Ole admitted on Wednesday night that he hoped our goalscorer against PSG would be available but was not sure on the extent of the issue.

David De Gea showed a few signs of discomfort during the tie, after sustaining a knock at Southampton when trying to keep out James Ward-Prowse's free-kick, so there could also be a question mark over his availability. On the plus side, Luke Shaw is getting closer to a return, following his hamstring strain, while Eric Bailly, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial were all passed fit in midweek.

Odion Ighalo came off the bench late on for his first involvement since the Carabao Cup win at Brighton & Hove Albion in September and, hopefully, the boss will have another large squad to select from, as the hosts are riding high in fifth spot in the Premier League.

Ole's Reds are looking to extend a club record of eight top-flight wins on the road.

WEST HAM'S TEAM NEWS

Michail Antonio returned from a hamstring injury to play in the rather fortuitous 2-1 win over Aston Villa last time out, while recent recruit from Brentford, Said Benrahma, made a positive impression as a substitute.

Moyes opted for a five-man defence in the game and could again select three centre-backs in a bid to quell United's attacking threat.

Andriy Yarmolenko, who scored in this fixture in September 2019, has tested positive for COVID-19 but will be available soon.
