In-form Academy star Mason Greenwood has been named Manchester United's Player of the Month for July 2020.

The teenager, who has netted 17 goals so far in an accomplished breakthrough season, edged out Anthony Martial and Bruno Fernandes in a fan poll to decide who should win the prize.

The 18-year-old garnered 46 per cent of the vote on our Official App, after an excellent run of performances that saw him notch four goals and three Man-of-the-Match awards (Bournemouth, Aston Villa and West Ham United).

Martial finished in second place (28 per cent) after a dynamic July full of assists and goals, while Bruno Fernandes – who won the last three editions of Player of the Month – trailed in third with over a quarter of the vote share (26 per cent).

Greenwood’s goalscoring went into overdrive in July, as our compilation video shows…

MAGIC MASON

Greenwood's progression throughout 2019/20 has been a major source of delight for United fans, and his form has soared since the Premier League resumed after the pause enforced by the COVID-19 pandemic.

July was his best month yet in the league, bringing four of his 10 goals in the competition. Mason has looked stronger, fitter and even more deadly than usual, firing home a sublime double against Bournemouth and then two almost identical bullet-like finishes against Aston Villa and West Ham, respectively.

The two goals against the Cherries summed up Greenwood's near-freakish ability with either foot. The first was thrashed emphatically through the grasp of the southerners' goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale with the left boot; the second fired across Ramsdale and into the top corner with the right foot from a pretty unfavourable position. More importantly, both efforts came when the Reds really needed them.
The youngster's final goal of the month, which clinched a draw against David Moyes's Hammers, was particularly crucial: it ensured the Reds went into the final day of their domestic season needing just a point to clinch Champions League status for next term.

In the end, United were able to beat Leicester 2-0 at the King Power Stadium to seal a third-place finish, and the determined, less feted side of Mason's game was key to that achievement. His energetic pressing and tackle on Hamza Choudhury allowed fellow nominees Fernandes and Martial to combine to earn the penalty that gave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men the lead with less than 20 minutes of normal time remaining.

It was the final act in a month that finishes with Greenwood becoming the youngest winner of the club's Player-of-the-Month award since Marcus Rashford, in February 2016.
