Anthony Martial wins October's Player of the Month.

Martial crowned October Player of the Month

Thursday 01 November 2018 15:00

In-form forward Anthony Martial has thanked Manchester United fans, after claiming the club's Player of the Month award for October.

The French forward acquired a whopping 76 per cent of our vote, ahead of defender Victor Lindelof (16 per cent) and his compatriot Paul Pogba (eight per cent), after a stellar month in which he helped United to wins over Newcastle and Everton, plus a creditable draw away at Chelsea.

Martial netted four goals in four starts during the period, including a double at Stamford Bridge and a delectable winner from outside the box against the Toffees last weekend. The former Monaco man also struck home a fierce equaliser against Newcastle, after a slick combination with Pogba, to continue the superb second-half comeback that culminated in Alexis Sanchez's late winner.

Turn up your sound, our newly crowned Player of the Month has a message for you…

"Thank you to the fans who voted me for the Player of the Month," said our no.11, when presented with the trophy at the Aon Training Complex.

"It’s very important for me," he continued. "When we’re out there on the field it’s the fans who drive us on, and they’re always there to try and give us that bit extra, even when we might be tired.

"I think they are really important for us and I hope they can continue getting behind us like they are doing currently."
It's the 22-year-old's sixth such award during his three-and-a-bit seasons at the club, since joining from Monaco, and Jose Mourinho is delighted with Martial's continued development.

"I think he has the same natural talent that he had one year ago, two years ago," said the Portuguese, after the win over Marco Silva's Everton, "but he's improving his way of thinking football, thinking training too and thinking his role in the team, so I'm really, really happy with him."

Martial has the chance to extend his run of good form when United meet Bournemouth on Saturday, with trips to Juventus and local rivals Manchester City to follow.

Thank you to everybody who voted in the poll.
