Casemiro named Player of the Month
Casemiro has been voted as United's Player of the Month for October 2022.
Our Brazilian midfield general has really grown into life at Old Trafford during recent weeks, and a series of accomplished performances have clearly endeared him to the Reds faithful.
Casemiro had stiff competition for the prize, with Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford also nominated. But the 30-year-old was first across the line, with 34 per cent of the vote.
The five-time Champions League winner was gradually integrated into Erik ten Hag's side throughout August and September, but firmly established himself within the starting XI during October.
He made his first Premier League start in the gritty away win at Everton, and was an ever-present starter in the six games that followed.
He provided the assist for Ronaldo's winner at Goodison Park, was our Man of the Match in the draw with Newcastle United, and then repeated that feat in our away game at Chelsea, where his cathartic late header earned us a well-deserved point.
But the suspicion is that Casemiro receives this award not just for those star turns, but for his consistency and authority in the less glamorous situations that can be so critical within top-level football games.
“I call him the cement in the midfield,” eulogised Erik ten Hag, after our win over West Ham last Sunday.
“I think in and out of possession he makes such a difference and he gives the team [an] extra edge and helps them dominate.
“He can also read the game and he helps the players by pointing them into the right positions. He is anticipating both in and out of possession and also he sees the pass between the lines. He is a top player and I am really happy to have him here.”
Casemiro's award means that all three of our Player of the Month accolades so far this season have gone to summer signings, with Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen claiming the prizes for August and September, respectively.
A quick mention must go to the other players nominated this month, too. Martinez finished just three per cent adrift of Casemiro, as his love affair with the Red Army intensifies, while Marcus Rashford (19 per cent) and the ever-improving Diogo Dalot (16 per cent) also polled well.
