Eriksen explains his rehabilitation mindset

Sunday 26 March 2023 09:00

Christian Eriksen has reported his rehabilitation from injury is going well, during a new episode of our UTD Podcast series.

The playmaker discusses his ongoing recovery with hosts Helen Evans, Sam Homewood and David May in a compelling podcast that will be released in April.

Our recording took place at Carrington this week after Christian had posted a series of photos on Instagram that showed his recent progress. The Dane has moved on from a protective boot to trainers and now football boots.

Eriksen has been out of action since suffering an injury during the Emirates FA Cup win over Reading at Old Trafford in January.

While his rehab is a gradual process that requires time and patience, he is optimistic he might still play a role in the season’s conclusion.

Speaking at a quieter-than-usual Carrington, owing to the international break, Christian began our podcast recording by providing an update on his progress. “I am very good thank you, very well thank you.

“It's very quiet at Carrington I would say, I haven't been here when it's this quiet. Maybe it was a bit similar when I signed and the whole team was in Australia. That was also very quiet. There is literally no-one here [laughs]. Nah, there are still a few people, but compared to normal there is nobody here.

“It is weird not being on international duty, you are normally away and now it's more the thing you are following your national team, and you are here instead of being with them. That is weird, but it has happened before so you get used to it. But, still, you enjoy it less.”
Asked about his Instagram post and, most importantly, his ongoing rehab, Eriksen continued: “Yeah, it is going well. I have just started being outside as you saw [on Instagram] with football boots on.

“And then we take it from there, that is the next step. I have been in the gym for some weeks now and now it is time to do the next rehab session outside.”
Eriksen admitted it is never easy being injured, but his experience allows him to deal with it better than he used to.  “I think earlier in my career I would have taken it a lot harder than I do now,” he said.

“You learn later on that it's just part of your career. Sometimes you are lucky, sometimes you are not. With this one particularly, when I can't do anything myself, when somebody came on to me, the mindset is just getting back as soon as possible in a healthy, strong way and not to get any setbacks.”

Look out for Christian Eriksen’s UTD Podcast when it is released in April.

     podcast

A superstar and huge role model joins us in this latest UTD Podcast episode, as Ella Toone talks us through her meteoric rise, in tandem with that of the women’s game in general. As a devoted fan growing up, her dream of playing for the Reds appeared impossible but the inception of the women’s side in 2018 changed all that. Idolising Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney, she was only going to join one club, despite rival interest from elsewhere, as she “came home” to United. Marc Skinner’s team have gone from strength to strength and are making history and inspiring future generations with their progress, something the forward is obviously very proud of. And, of course, Ella also speaks extensively about winning the Euros with England, the wild celebrations that followed and why her local pub are doing a roaring trade in bucket hats in her honour! So don’t miss out another five-star pod, presented by Helen Evans, Sam Homewood and David May!

However, he has performed well since leaving United and discusses representing Watford again, where he had excelled during a loan stint. There is also a desire to represent another club and also to try his hand at management, with taking charge of the Reds an ultimate dream. The striker discusses his time at Millwall, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham and United, and his decision to leave his beloved Spurs in order to win trophies. When his father informed him of United’s interest, he didn’t hesitate and he was taken aback by a ‘proper football club’. Ironically, his Treble campaign was far from his best, until the final three games and those 11 mad days, as he had to compete for a place with Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Teddy reveals the talks with Sir Alex and the belief the manager had that he would be needed, before his dramatic impact in the FA Cup and Champions League finals. Sheringham recounts the closing stages of the win over Bayern Munich in vivid detail and explains why it has inspired the naming of his house! Check out another unmissable episode of the UTD Podcast!
