Tuesday 01 December 2020 11:16

The FA Women's Continental League Cup group-stage match against Everton will now take place on Wednesday 16 December, with kick-off at 19:00 GMT.

The original fixture was set to be played on 4 November, but was called off with the permission of The Football Association, due to concerns around the stadium at Walton Hall Park.

The Reds' Group C campaign will now draw to a close in the middle of this month, after Women's Super League visits to Aston Villa and Reading.

United Women's eagerly awaited away game against Everton will no longer be played this evening.

Following our 3-1 loss to Liverpool at Prenton Park in the opening group game, United had to wait six weeks to get back in action, with a Manchester derby at Leigh Sports Village.

That match ended in a goalless draw, but Casey Stoney's side emerged victorious on penalties to claim two points.

However, with only the six group winners and two best runners-up progressing to the knockout stages, the Reds know that even a win on Merseyside will not be enough to qualify - with Durham, Reading and Crystal Palace having already finished second in their respective pools, with a better points-per-game record than United can achieve.

Still, it should be a good test against Willie Kirk's side, who narrowly lost to Manchester City in November's FA Cup final and sit fourth in the WSL table, three points off United, after an impressive start to the season.
