Hayley Ladd has been voted Manchester United Women’s Player of the Year for the 2019/20 season.

The midfielder, who joined the Reds from Birmingham City last summer, was one of two players who featured in every single game for United across all competitions last term, along with captain Katie Zelem.

From Ladd’s 21 appearances, she scored once and it was a particularly memorable strike during an 11-1 win over Leicester City in the Continental League Cup.

The Welsh international chipped the Foxes goalkeeper Scarlett Field from all of 30 yards in that convincing win last November, which was one of our best goals of the campaign.

However, it’s Ladd’s exceptional defensive displays that stood out in 2019/20. From a holding-midfield role she constantly snuffed out opposition attacks, with one of her standout displays coming in the 2-0 win over former side Manchester City in October.

For this year’s award, the players from our Women’s squad voted for who they felt should win the accolade, with Ladd topping the poll.

Reacting to her award success, Hayley told us: “It’s an honour to receive this award, I’m obviously just happy to be able to contribute to the team as much as I can but it is nice to win these sorts of things as a player.

"I want to thank Casey, the staff and all of my team-mates, we have a great environment here and it really pushes us as players to be the best we can be. I’m looking forward to what we can achieve with this team and hope that this award will add to many team trophies in the future.”

Casey Stoney told us: “Hayley was one of the standout players for us last season so it’s great to see her receive some formal recognition for her hard work.

"The award was decided by the players themselves and I think she thoroughly deserves it, having been a consistent performer for us throughout the season. She is such an intelligent player who reads the game very well and she also brings a calm presence to our midfield which is really key for us.”

Leah Galton's late goal helped Casey Stoney's Reds secure a deserved point against the WSL champions...

Ladd becomes the second player to win the trophy after the aforementioned Zelem won it for the 2018/19 term.

Hayley has also made a superb start to the 2020/21 season and has played in both of our matches so far: the 1-1 draw with Chelsea and last weekend’s 5-2 victory over Birmingham City.

Congrats on the award, Hayley!
