Sancho expecting brighter future

Jadon Sancho feels it will be a fresh start for everybody at Manchester United when new manager Erik ten Hag completes his move from Ajax.

The 22-year-old has experienced an up-and-down first season in the Premier League, after signing from Borussia Dortmund last summer.

He took time to show his true form but displayed his class and quality to such an extent that he landed our Player-of-the-Month award for February and was also nominated for March's prize.

However, he has been sidelined with tonsillitis of late and is a doubt for the season's climax at Crystal Palace next weekend.

"To start again fresh, with a new manager coming in, we’re looking forward to seeing what his ideas and plans for the team are," Sancho told Premier League Productions.

"You only have to think positively. My career is only getting started and, hopefully, it will take off soon. This has been a difficult season, especially being a Manchester United player, with what the club has achieved over the years.

"United is known for winning trophies and being up there with the best. This season has been a difficult one for all of us, but I think we still have to show belief again."

If Sancho does miss the return to his native London and the final-day clash with the Eagles, he will finish his maiden campaign at the club with a healthy 38 appearances and five goals, one of which was in the Manchester derby against his ex-employers City.

His first strike came in the away win to eventual Champions League semi-finalists Villarreal in November.

"It was a nice feeling," he recalled. "Scoring for the club that you have just signed for is always a great feeling. It was a nice goal as well!"
