Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has paid Daley Blind a great compliment after the Dutchman sealed a return to Ajax.

The versatile defender has rejoined the club he left to move to United four years ago, after helping the Reds win more silverware in his time in Manchester.

"I would like to say a big thank you to Daley Blind for everything he has done for the club since he joined in 2014," the boss told ManUtd.com.

"I have to say, that in my 18 years of management, Daley is one of the most professional players, both on and off the pitch, that I have had the pleasure to work with.

Daley will return to his homeland and everybody at Old Trafford wishes him well for the future.

"I would like to take this opportunity to wish him all the very best as he rejoins his boyhood club, Ajax, and thank him from the bottom of my heart for his commitment and dedication over the past two seasons."

Blind, whose father Danny was a hugely successful player with Ajax and the Netherlands, made 141 appearances for the Reds and was excellent in the 2017 Europa League final victory over the club he has moved back to.

Blind, who has signed a four-year deal in the Dutch capital, said earlier: "To play for the biggest club in the world with such a history meant a lot to me. I had four great years with four trophies."
