United fans look forward to Sabitzer's debut

Wednesday 01 February 2023 12:10

Manchester United completed the loan signing of Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich on transfer deadline day and fans are excited to watch the 28-year-old in action.

The intelligent central midfielder has agreed a temporary move to Old Trafford until June 2023 and becomes our first Austrian player in history.

Sabitzer will not be in Erik ten Hag’s squad for Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Nottingham Forest because he is still completing his visa process.

However, Marcel is expected to watch our much-anticipated cup tie at the Theatre of Dreams as a spectator, so look out for his possible attendance in the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand this evening.

We are pleased to confirm the Austrian midfielder has joined us until the end of this season.

In our club statement on Wednesday morning, the former RB Leipzig club captain looked forward to pulling on the iconic red shirt of United for the first time.

“Sometimes in life you have to make quick and important decisions,” said Sabitzer.

“From the moment I heard about this opportunity I knew it was right for me. I am a competitive player; I want to win and help the club achieve its aims this season.

“I feel that I am at my peak as a player, and that I can contribute a lot of experience and energy to the squad. I am excited to start with my new team-mates and manager and to show my qualities to Manchester United fans.”

Sabitzer has previously played against United with former club RB Leipzig during the 2020/21 Champions League group stage.

The Austrian side experienced a night to forget when they lost 5-0 at Old Trafford, before they won 3-2 at the Red Bull Arena on matchday six. Marcel notably registered an assist on the night as part of an accomplished performance.

It remains to be seen when Sabitzer will make his United debut, with his visa process ongoing and Ten Hag still to assess him in training.

Of course, the Reds have eight fixtures across all competitions in February and those include two blockbuster occasions against Barcelona in the Europa League.

We can confirm our new loan signing is eligible to feature in the competition, as per UEFA rules, having featured in the Champions League earlier this season with Bayern.
