United freeze season-ticket prices for 2020/21

Monday 09 March 2020 11:00

Manchester United has announced that season-ticket prices have been frozen for the 2020/21 season. This marks the ninth successive season that the club has kept prices static in general admission areas of the stadium.

News of the price freeze comes as the club launches the season-ticket renewal process for the forthcoming campaign. With the waiting list exceeding 100,000 seats, demand is expected to remain high.

This pricing policy ties in with the club’s wider commitment to ensuring that younger fans have access to live, affordable football. Existing initiatives will remain such as the £10 per game season-ticket for under 16s in family areas; the 25 per cent discount for 18-20 year olds and free group tickets for local children for certain cup games.

The fans had a vital part to play in the derby victory over Manchester City.
In addition to the price freeze, fans will benefit from a series of initiatives to improve the matchday experience next season including:

• Expansion of the dedicated area for vocal fans in the Stretford End to continue to enhance the Old Trafford atmosphere.

• Potential introduction of a rail-seating trial, subject to approval from local authorities.

• Relocation of the family section to premium seats in the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand at no additional cost for existing season-ticket holders.

• Completion of expanded, state-of-the-art accessible facilities for disabled supporters after more than £11 million of investment.

• Kiosk prices will also be held for the forthcoming season.
Commenting on the fan-led initiative to enhance the matchday atmosphere, group managing director Richard Arnold said: “I want to place on record our appreciation of the hard work and dedication from the organisers of the atmosphere section. The phenomenal support the team get has been taken to a new level by this successful initiative. We will be seeking to build on this next season by extending this section of the Stretford End out towards the south-west corner, increasing the allocation to at least 2,000 supporters.

“We have also submitted a proposal to the local authority to trial a rail-seating area within the stadium. Our belief is that the introduction of rail seating would enhance spectator safety in areas of the stadium where, as with other clubs, we have seen examples of persistent standing. We hope to have news on our application soon.”

The family section will move to tier two of the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand, providing young spectators with exceptional views of the pitch. Explaining the move, Richard Arnold said: “This is part of our long-term plan and vision for the stadium, which we have been working on for some time. It’s been a big piece of work and a significant majority of our match-going fans backed this move to accommodate a larger atmosphere section in a previous consultation. Every fan has their own individual needs to make their matchday special and we want to ensure that there is a suitable home for everyone at Old Trafford.”

There is nothing like the Old Trafford experience on a matchday.
Adults and under 16s who move from the current family section will also retain their existing, lower season-ticket prices until they naturally migrate out of the section as their children become older.

Richard Arnold continued: “We do appreciate that there is an element of change for some fans as we reorganise where groups are based within the layout of the stadium and thank them for their co-operation. Families who move to the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand will hopefully enjoy the view from their new seats in what is a premium part of the stadium.”

By the summer, subject to testing, the expanded accessible facilities for disabled supporters are planned to be in operation following an investment of over £11 million. Richard Arnold said: “These state-of-the-art facilities will dramatically increase capacity for our supporters who have specific needs and will importantly provide more choice on where they want to sit in the stadium.”

The ongoing refurbishment programme of stadium facilities will also continue in the summer of 2020, with the 1999 Suite, Knights Lounge, 1968 Suite and Centennial boxes all to be upgraded.

Richard Arnold said: “As Old Trafford celebrates its 110-year anniversary, these investments demonstrate our commitment to maintaining its status as one of Europe’s leading football stadiums whilst preserving its unique and iconic character.”

The renewals process launches today (9 March), with a deadline of Friday 1 May 2020.
