United confirms provisional plans for return of fans

Friday 04 December 2020 18:00

Manchester United has announced its provisional plans for fans to return to Old Trafford once given the go-ahead to do so. While home games currently remain behind closed doors, United has confirmed the new safety measures, ticketing processes and pricing details which will be rolled out to fans when Greater Manchester comes out of Tier 3.

This follows the recent announcement from the UK Government, as part of its COVID-19 Winter Plan, that clubs based in Tier 1 and 2 categories of COVID-19 restrictions will be able to reopen to fans with reduced capacities.

With the next government review of regional restrictions planned for the week leading up to the Leeds United match on 20 December at Old Trafford, there is a possibility that fans may be able to attend that game if Greater Manchester (or Trafford) is moved into Tier 2 and approval is given by local authorities.

For matches with 2,000 supporters, tickets will be priced at £30 for adults, £15 for Under 20s and over 65s, and £10 for children. All general admission tickets will be located in sections of the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand and the Stretford End. Fans will be able to apply individually or in groups of two. Wheelchair positions will also be available in the East Stand.

The majority of tickets will be allocated to Season Ticket Holders and a random ballot will be held on a match-by-match basis. Applications for that provisional ballot process will be accepted from Season Ticket holders who held their ticket in the 2019/20 season (irrespective of whether they have renewed for 2020/21 or not) and any new Season Ticket holders that have already purchased for the 2020/21 season. Full details have been sent directly to all eligible fans. International and inter-tier travel restrictions will apply.

A proportional number of tickets will be assigned to Executive Club Members, alongside allocations for Official Members and other contractual and Premier League requirements. In line with the national guidance, away fans will not be in attendance.
Fans who apply will be asked to agree to a new Code of Conduct, which encourages respectful behaviour and social distancing, and includes the practical rules that will be applied at Old Trafford to ensure the safest possible environment for everyone.

Manchester United Women are also scheduled to play on 20 December, against Bristol City at Leigh Sports Village. Plans for the safe return of fans to Leigh Sports Village continue, and further details including ticketing information will be communicated in due course.

All relevant information for supporters, including an animated instructional safety video, will be hosted on manutd.com/reunited.
Collette Roche, Chief Operating Officer, said: “It is important to present these conditional plans for the return of our fans to allow preparations to be made.

"We are eager to welcome them back and thank them in advance for their patience and co-operation with our new operating policies that are in place to keep everyone safe. Responsible behaviour will help build trust and confidence, helping us move back to greater capacity numbers in the future once Manchester’s restrictions are reduced.

“We know we are asking a lot from our fans in terms of the adjustments to their usual match day routines. In return, we are committed to making the experience as safe as possible for them and their families and have also kept ticket prices low.

“A word of caution: fans must consider their own health before applying for any provisional ballots and pay attention to the local restrictions which are in place wherever they live. They should also carefully read all the detailed information which we will be sending to those who are successful in future ballots.

“We also thank the ongoing support of Trafford Council, our local suppliers and staff who have worked hard to develop these plans.”
