Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrives at Molineux

Confirmed: Solskjaer's United side to face Wolves

Saturday 04 January 2020 16:31

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has rung the changes for Manchester United's first Emirates FA Cup assignment of the 2019/20 season, making seven alterations for our third-round clash with Wolves.

The Norwegian hands a first appearance of 2020 to Sergio Romero - who has three clean sheets in his last three starts – while captain Ashley Young and Brandon Williams come in for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw, respectively, in the full-back positions.

Andreas Pereira starts in central midfield, alongside Nemanja Matic, while Juan Mata is set to adopt the no.10 role behind Mason Greenwood, who has the task of spearheading the attack.

Concluding the changes is Tahith Chong – who makes his first appearance since the Astana game in Kazakhstan in late November.
David De Gea is given a rest, so Lee Grant is on the bench, as are the rested trio of Wan-Bissaka, Fred and Marcus Rashford, after contesting plenty of minutes over the festive period.

Diogo Dalot returns to the squad for the first time in almost three months, and there are also places for Angel Gomes and Phil Jones among the substitutes.
Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo has also shaken things up, making five changes to the starting XI that lost 2-1 to in-form Watford in the Premier League three days ago.

John Ruddy replaces Rui Patricio in goal, while midfield lynchpin Ruben Neves comes back into the starting line-up after a substitutes' role at Vicarage Road.

Elsewhere, Joao Moutinho and Raul Jimenez move to the bench, but powerful winger Adama Traore starts on the right.

United drew 1-1 at Molineux in August, when the teams met in the season's second round of Premier League fixtures.

Speaking to MUTV about his selection, Solskjaer said: “I think we have got a good mix here. We have had to rotate before, with the Europa League and Carabao Cup, so I feel that we have got a good chance.

“We have got a game on Tuesday again so it is more hectic for us than it is for Wolves, but we didn't expect the same team for them as last time. There are so many games in this period and us managers have to rotate.”

When asked about Chong's recall, the manager explained: “He has been bright when he has played in the Under-23s lately. He has not as many opportunities as he maybe hoped for. He did well in pre-season when he had a couple of chances with the first team, so I hope to see Tahith at his best.”
