Team news for United's trip to West Ham

Friday 04 December 2020 13:30

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update on the fitness of his squad, as Manchester United seek a ninth consecutive away Premier League win, at West Ham on Saturday.

Marcus Rashford is United's main injury concern, after the forward departed Wednesday's Champions League defeat to PSG at Old Trafford early, with a shoulder problem.

Despite the issue, our no.10 has been working at the Aon Training Complex with the rest of the team and Solskjaer hopes he can include him in his 18-man squad at the London Stadium at 17:30 GMT on Saturday.

“Marcus has been training this morning, not fully, but he’s joined in with the group,” Ole revealed to reporters.

“His shoulder stopped him finishing the game [against PSG]. He’s getting treatment and hopefully he’ll be part of the squad that travels.

“He’s having treatment now after training.”

One player who won't be making the journey down to East London is Luke Shaw.

The left-back has missed each of United's four games since the international break, with a hamstring injury, and although he is back in training, is not yet fit enough to play competitively.

“Luke’s not ready yet,” Solskjaer added.

“Apart from that, we had a big squad training again.”

Ole has an abundance of options to choose from in central midfield, with Fred and Scott McTominay preferred in midweek.

With the Brazilian suspended for Tuesday’s clash with RB Leipzig, the boss may opt to start him and rest McTominay, perhaps to give Donny van de Beek or Paul Pogba a run-out after their showings off the bench against the Parisians, while Nemanja Matic is also available.

At the back, Axel Tuanzebe can be selected after missing the PSG game through European suspension, but Phil Jones won’t return from a knee operation until after Christmas.

Eric Bailly and Jesse Lingard were unused substitutes on Wednesday, after overcoming various injury and illness issues which have kept them sidelined since the opening weeks of the campaign, while Odion Ighalo was given late minutes on his first appearance for two months.

WEST HAM TEAM NEWS

The Hammers come into the game in good form, having won three Premier League games in a row. David Moyes’s squad also looks to be in rude health, with new signing Said Benrahma assimilating nicely with his new team-mates.

However, Michail Antonio has been ruled out by Moyes after suffering a new hamstring injury, while it is not yet clear if Andriy Yarmolenko will be involved. The Ukrainian winger scored in this fixture last season, but tested positive for COVID-19 while on international duty.

“Michail won't be available for the game,” said Moyes. “Hopefully it's not too bad. He's still having a a bit of problem with his hamstring, it's something different but we hope he won't be too long.

“Andriy Yarmolenko is recovering, he has trained the last few days now. You're never sure how quickly they will recover [from the virus], but the good news he's back, he's fit and healthy and has been training the last few days.”
