Ole's team news for Newcastle clash

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will assess his options at the Aon Training Complex ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash at Newcastle United.

Our third game in seven days pits the Reds against a team currently lying second from bottom in the table, and there'll be a determination among Ole's men to end a taxing run on a high.

Jesse Lingard joined the injury list with a hamstring problem in the closing stages of Thursday's Europa League draw with AZ Alkmaar, leaving the Reds down to 10 men for the final few minutes. The boss has already confirmed the winger is unlikely to feature this weekend as a result.

Speaking ahead of the stalemate with AZ, Ole has already indicated that the Tyneside encounter will probably come too soon for Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial, even if they are making progress in terms of their return, while Paul Pogba looks set to miss out with an ankle problem.

“Probably not [but] let's see on Saturday morning,” replied Ole, when asked if any players are coming back.

“Paul? Probably not. There's the international break to come and that might be the time to give them 10-14 days extra to get them ready for the Liverpool game.”

When discussing his squad with MUTV in The Hague, the manager said: “Well, they’ve travelled and, of course, some of them played 90 minutes here and will play on Sunday. They’re professionals and will recover. They’ve got great staff around them and all the little details will be taken care of. We’ll be 100 per cent when we get up there.”

Harry Maguire should come back into the side at centre-back after being an unused substitute, while captain Ashley Young did not travel but was presumably rested.

There is a question mark over Aaron Wan-Bissaka's involvement after illness, and fellow defenders Eric Bailly and Phil Jones are definitely ruled out.

Although Jono Shelvey will be available again, the Magpies will be without Isaac Hayden, who is suspended after his red card in the 5-0 defeat to Leicester City last time out. Matt Ritchie also looks set to miss the game, due to injury, while Dwight Gayle and Florian Lejeune are still sidelined.

There has been talk that Newcastle manager Steve Bruce, the former Reds favourite, will consider making a number of changes after his team's heavy loss to the Foxes.
