WHAT'S OUR RECORD LIKE AGAINST VILLA?

The Villans have been one of our more welcomed guests to Old Trafford in the Premier League era. We have lost just once in 24 meetings with Villa at home, winning 19 and drawing just four times. Our first meeting with Villa came in 1892 and over the years we’ve played the former European champions on 186 occasions, of which we’ve won 98, drawn 39 and lost 49 times. We last hosted Villa in 2016, when Marcus Rashford’s solitary strike earned a 1-0 victory which ultimately relegated the West Midlands outfit to the Championship.

HOW DID ASTON VILLA GET ON LAST SEASON?

After three years in England’s second tier, Dean Smith led the Villans back to the promised land in 2018/19. They had to do it the hard way however, and after finishing fifth in the table and failing to gain automatic promotion, Villa had to navigate their way through the play-offs. After overcoming local rivals West Bromwich Albion on penalties in the semi-finals, Villa met Derby County in the Wembley showpiece in May, where goals from Anwar El Ghazi and John McGinn ensured one of the Premier League’s founder members returned to the top flight once again.
