United v Rochdale: All the important info

The Reds have advanced beyond this stage of the competition in eight of the previous 10 attempts, although we were knocked out on penalties by Derby County after a 2-2 draw 12 months ago.

We haven’t played the Dale in a competitive game for over 33 years, so the match promises to be a memorable one for both sets of supporters.

HOW CAN I FOLLOW THE GAME?
The match is not being broadcast on television in the UK, but MUTV subscribers can take in all of the build-up to the game on Match Day Live from 18:30 BST, followed by live radio commentary. As usual, we will also be providing full match coverage on ManUtd.com and the Official App where, as well as following live text updates, you can also track player statistics and the latest data in the Match Centre. All the action will be shown on MUTV the following day.

WHAT’S THE LATEST TEAM NEWS?
Marcus Rashford is likely to miss the match after suffering a groin injury during the 2-0 defeat to West Ham on Sunday. “We’ve got a scan tomorrow,” Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told the press after the final whistle. “He felt his groin, so he’ll probably be out for a little while."

Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba and Mason Greenwood also missed the game at the London Stadium. Shaw and Martial have been out since the Crystal Palace match in August, while Pogba has missed the last three games with an ankle injury sustained on international duty with France. Greenwood, who scored his first goal for the club in the 1-0 win over Astana last week, was ruled out of the trip to London through illness.

HOW ARE ROCHDALE GETTING ON?
Rochdale currently sit 17th in League One, having taken 10 points from their opening nine games. A late Ched Evans goal saw them fall to a 2-1 defeat at Fleetwood on Saturday, meaning Brian Barry-Murphy's side have won just once in the league since their opening-day triumph at Tranmere Rovers. The Dale have found life a little easier in the Carabao Cup, however, getting past Bolton Wanderers and Carlisle United to book their place in the third round for the first time since the 2011/12 campaign.

WHO’S THE GAFFER?
Barry-Murphy has been in the hot seat at the Crown Oil Arena since March after taking over from Keith Hill, who oversaw two promotions during his two separate spells as manager. Initially appointed on a caretaker basis, the Irishman – a Rochdale player from 2010 to 2018 – oversaw an upturn in form which helped the club beat the League One drop by four points and secured Barry-Murphy his first permanent position in management.

PLAYERS TO LOOK OUT FOR
Club talisman and captain Ian Henderson is the fans’ favourite at Spotland. The 34-year-old former England youth international has scored 114 league goals for The Dale since signing in 2013 and needs just six more to claim the overall club record. Fellow forward Aaron Wilbraham, who celebrates his 40th birthday next month, is another Football League stalwart and can list Premier League spells at Norwich City and Crystal Palace on his lengthy CV. Former United youth teamer Oliver Rathbone is in his fourth season at Rochdale and the midfielder has scored 10 goals in 116 appearances for the club.

THE LAST TIME WE MET
The Dale’s Crown Oil Arena is just half-an-hour's drive away from Old Trafford, but we have only faced our Greater Manchester rivals once in a competitive fixture. That came in the FA Cup third round in 1986, when goals from Frank Stapleton and Mark Hughes ensured we got our defence of the famous trophy off to a perfect start.

WHO’S THE REFEREE?
John Brooks has been selected for the tie at Old Trafford. The 29-year-old from Leicestershire is on the Select Group panel of assistant referees for the Premier League and usually takes charge of Football League matches; this will be the first United game he’s covered. Brooks will be assisted by linesmen Nick Greenhalgh and Philip Dermott, with Anthony Backhouse as fourth official. VAR is in play at all Premier League grounds during this season’s Carabao Cup.

RIVALS WATCH
All 16 matches in the third round are to be played this week, with eight games taking place on Tuesday and the remainder kicking off on Wednesday.
