Ole has confidence in Reds' transfer plans

Wednesday 08 April 2020 14:00

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is confident Manchester United can still do our planned business in the transfer market, whenever the window opens again following the coronavirus outbreak.

Despite football being paused, the Reds continue to be linked with new names on virtually a daily basis as speculation continues unabated about which stars the club might be looking to buy.

Ole has previously indicated that he is determined to strengthen his squad further and maintain his good record in the market since taking charge, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Daniel James, Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo all performing well.

Even though there is great uncertainty about how the market will respond to the economic effects of the lockdown, the manager expects the club to be able to land new talent.

Ole: Footballers have a part to play

Ole explains what he wants his players to focus on, as the world continues to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.

"We are planning what we have to do, what we can do, and I have to say the club has been very good," Ole told Sky Sports.

“Football is going to get back to normality at one point, and it’s very important we’re ready when that happens. We want to be the best at everything, and now you spend more time, you discuss players, discuss plans, we’ve evaluated what we need, and, with the coaching staff, we’ve evaluated games, discussing [them] on video calls.

“Then, the market, who knows how the market is going to react to this?

“I’m sure we are capable, when we get back to normality, that we can do the business that we want to."

Solskjaer also explained how the coaching process works within the club and this dynamic will continue when everybody returns to the Aon Training Complex.

"Yes, we can kick on, I’m sure we can get a good start and climb up that table if we keep doing the right thing," he said. "The coaches have been tremendous, Michael [Carrick] has been fantastic with his ideas and Kieran [McKenna] too. They’ve been working on plans to make sure we can kick on. Even with the FA Cup and Europa League, if that does go ahead, we’ve got good chances there.

The manager explains how he is still keeping in touch with his squad and planning for football's return.

“Michael and Kieran are mostly in charge of the sessions, like we used to do before with Rene [Meulensteen] and Carlos Queiroz. Martyn Pert is in there helping them. Me and Mike [Phelan] are not as involved in the coaching, we are leaving it to the young lads.

“They’ve been tremendous, I have been really impressed with their ideas, [and we've had] some great discussions. I am not involved as much as I maybe was at Molde or Cardiff."
