Solskjaer's team news for Wolves clash

Friday 15 March 2019 09:43

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed Romelu Lukaku's fitness will be assessed ahead of Saturday's Emirates FA Cup quarter-final at Wolves, but Phil Jones is available again and could return to the team.

Our caretaker manager also exclusively told MUTV that Jesse Lingard and Ander Herrera have been training this week, while 17-year-old striker Mason Greenwood could be involved in Friday’s session at the Aon Training Complex after missing Wednesday’s UEFA Youth League tie at FC Midtjylland through illness.

Centre-back Jones has not played since the 3-0 Premier League win over Fulham at Craven Cottage on 9 February because of injury.

In addition, Ashley Young will be suspended after picking up his second yellow card in the FA Cup in our 2-0 win at Chelsea in the last round, while Sergio Romero has played in all three of our matches in the competition so far, and could retain his place in goal.

Romelu Lukaku will be assessed ahead of Saturday's game against Wolves.

“We’re still getting players [back],” Ole told Stewart Gardner before Friday’s press conference. “They’ve been training better this week so Jesse [Lingard] and Ander [Herrera] have been training. Rom[elu Lukaku] has a sore foot so he will be assessed this morning [Friday] so let’s see if he can join in. Phil Jones is back so we’re looking stronger.”

Solskjaer went on: “Mason [Greenwood] has been ill, so he’s not trained this week. He might be training this morning so let’s see how he is.

“Sergio [Romero] been absolutely fantastic and he must have the world record for clean sheets in the percentage of games he’s played. He’s kept nine [clean sheets] in the last 11 games, or something like that, in the FA Cup so that’s fantastic.”

HOW ARE WOLVES SHAPING UP?

Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has the unusual luxury, at this stage of the season, of a fully fit squad to choose from.

Ryan Bennett’s forthcoming two-match ban only applies in the Premier League, after the defender collected his 10th league booking of the campaign in their 2-0 victory over Cardiff City at Molineux.

Their last starting XI, for the 1-1 draw against Chelsea, was: Rui Patricio; Doherty, Saiss, Coady, Boly, Otto; Dendoncker, Neves, Moutinho; Jiminez, Jota.
