Is this the start of a great United strike partnership?

The two forwards have often been viewed as fighting for one spot as the Reds' central striker but both played up front during the 3-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain in midweek. Lukaku scored twice, the second following a Rashford shot, before the England international smashed in the dramatic tie-winning late penalty.

After the game in the French capital, the pair conducted their television interview together and the signs are they are working beautifully in tandem.

Of course, both players are also capable of playing in a wider role - something Lukaku did to great effect in the Emirates FA Cup win at Sunday's opponents Arsenal, while Rashford is always able to utilise his pace on the flanks and has appeared there many times.

Anthony Martial's return will provide another attacking option for Solskjaer this weekend in a crunch clash in the battle for a top-four berth but there is no better judge of a striker than the Norwegian, one of the most dead-eyed finishers in the club's illustrious history.

"I don't think a lot has changed [with Romelu]," Ole said. "Of course, he's been asked to play wide a few times earlier on and provide more chances, but now he's more in and around the box. We need Rom facing the goal, not with his back to goal.

“Of course we played with two up front, with him and Rashy against PSG. They might form a very nice partnership together, because I wouldn't like to be a defender having them two running at me!”

Both players were stars in Paris and there will hopefully be much more to come as the season builds towards its climax. And while Solskjaer feels he hasn't been in charge long enough to see much development in Rashford, he's in no doubt about the youngster's quality.

"You don't really see too much of a change in a player in three months," explained Ole.

"He's 21, so you're excused if sometimes you really hit the highs and then sometimes, you're a little bit off the pace.

"To be fair to Rashy, you don't expect the consistency yet in all of his play, but he's always got the quality. His finishing, his striking of the ball, his attitude, those [attribute] are always going to be with him.

"I keep battering him with it [the suggestion] that he also should score as many goals as Rom, after the training session's finished. He should always get them simple tap-ins, finishes like Rom's scored in the last few game. Rashy's goals sometimes are 'worldies' and he does have a sensational strike of the ball, but you can see the improvement, maturity and change in Cristiano Ronaldo's [type of] goals from when he was young to now.

"He scores more from inside the box now and that's what Rashy has to improve as well - his tap-ins, his movement in the box. He needs to stay in the box and maybe get away from the centre-backs a few more times. He could get five to 10 extra goals by staying in the box, he's been told that."
