Tuesday 20 July 2021 18:00

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stressed the importance of having a week away from Carrington to bond ahead of the new campaign.

The Reds are based in Surrey in the lead up to our next pre-season friendly, Saturday's 15:00 BST kick-off at QPR, which is being shown live on MUTV.

With Scott McTominay and Daniel James added to those on duty in the 2-1 win over Derby County, the planning is continuing behind the scenes with double sessions aimed at improving the players' fitness.

“It’s fantastic to be here,” Ole told us. “The facilities are great and we’re together, that’s the main thing for that bonding. We all eat together and spend time with each other and it’s a chance to really do some good work and really put down a foundation for the rest of the season for these boys, and men some of them! “It’s a decision we made. Of course, we drive up the road and have great facilities at Carrington, but it is special to have that pre-season tour feeling.

“The intensity of training will be good,” the manager added. “It’s always great when you get through a hard week of training and then maybe the weather cools down a little bit and you feel so much stronger as a player and you feel you can run more.

“It’s an important week for us.”

Some 27 players are working in the sunshine in Surrey, including plenty of youngsters who will be revelling in the experience.
