Pogba: It was a beautiful goal and a beautiful victory

The French midfield maestro was dominant in the victory at Craven Cottage as the Reds ran out 2-1 winners on the banks the Thames. 

In the 65th minute, after Edinson Cavani had pulled us back on level terms, following Ademola Lookman's opener, Pogba created space for himself at the edge of the box and showcased his world-class ability. The Frenchman's long-range strike curled passed a helpless Alphonse Areola and secured another United win away from home, our eighth in total this Premier League campaign. 

"It was a hard game," our no. 6 summarised, when speaking to BT Sport after the game.

"We knew it would be difficult here, they don’t give up, they press, they stay compact behind. We concede a goal and went behind and knew it would be hard and we had to come back. We needed this win and we got it the hard way."

Understandably, the match-winner was delighted with his decisive goal, which was actually his first strike with his weaker from outside the area while playing in the Premier League.

"I hit it well," he said with a smile on his face. "I didn’t expect my left foot to be like this. You know, if you don’t try you don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m really glad the ball went in. It was a beautiful goal and a beautiful victory. That’s the most important."

That goal was Pogba's second winner away from home in our last three Premier League matches, as the World Cup winner also produced a powerful volleyed effort to win our tough battle against Burnley earlier this month.

Our midfielder was asked if he preferred Wednesday's goal to his winner at Turf Moor.

"I will say yes, because it was with the left foot," he explained. "It’s not my favourite, but a goal is a goal."

The triumph in London sent United back to the top of the Premier League table and left Paul clearly jubilant.

"I love winning," said the 27-year-old. "It’s all about winning. I will always be happy when I win, and I will always be happy when I’m on the pitch. Today we won, so I’m happy. The day we lose I'll be angry again. This is me."

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Reds are now top with 40 points, with Manchester City and Leicester City two points behind us in second and third respectively. Liverpool follow on 34 points, but both the Merseysiders and City have a game in hand on United. 

Given how tight the table is at present, Pogba is expecting a tough title race.

"It’s the Premier League, so it’s always hard. It’ll never be easy and we know there are big teams as well close with us on points, so we have to do us. That’s it."
