United's team news for Palace finale

Friday 20 May 2022 13:34

Manchester United's squad plans have been revealed for the final game of the Premier League campaign at Crystal Palace.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has confirmed the latest options for the Selhurst Park showdown, which will be his last in charge before he hands over the reins to Erik ten Hag.

United are currently two points ahead of West Ham United in sixth spot in the table, but with an inferior goal difference, so only a victory will guarantee a place in next term's Europa League. The Hammers are away to Brighton & Hove Albion on the final day.

There will be a number of players unavailable for the trip to the capital, although Rangnick did not disclose full details at his pre-match press conference.

"We, once again unfortunately, have quite a few players missing and another couple of players with question marks," said the interim manager.

"We have to wait for tomorrow's last training session but, as it stands now, there will be quite a few players missing. I'm still positive that we will have a strong starting XI and finish the season on a higher note than we did at Brighton. I'm positive that the players want to get things right and show and prove to everybody that they are capable to play a lot better than we did at Brighton."

When pressed on who would definitely be absent, Ralf replied: "There are a few players definitely missing. Please understand that I don't want to name all those names right now."

Luke Shaw has returned to training but may only make the bench, while Jadon Sancho may also still be unavailable, even though he and Marcus Rashford appear to be recovering from illness. Paul Pogba has remained sidelined due to injury.

"Luke Shaw's wife gave birth to their second baby today and he was supposed to be training tomorrow," added Rangnick. "But apparently he isn't. So we have to wait and see if he would at least be available for the bench on Sunday.

"In two days' training, we had at least one or two players leaving the training session a little earlier because they couldn't finish the session because they had problems. That was Jadon and Phil Jones, so we need to wait until after the session tomorrow."

PALACE'S TEAM NEWS

Patrick Vieira made three changes for the dramatic 3-2 loss at Everton, which guaranteed the Merseysiders a place in next season's Premier League.

Will Hughes, Eberechi Eze and Jeffrey Schlupp started, although Conor Gallagher came off the bench, with Hughes feeling unwell, and could be an option in what promises to be the final game of his loan move from Chelsea.

Former Reds winger Wilfried Zaha was outstanding in the first half, as the Eagles raced into a two-goal lead before being overrun after the break.

Academy youngster Jesurun Rak-Sakyi was on the bench, along with Chiekhou Kouyate. James Tomkins, James McArthur, Nathan Ferguson and Michael Olise have all been injured.
