McTominay buoyed by 'healthy dressing room'

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is convinced the team is back on track because of the attitude within the dressing room.

The Scotland international won his second Player-of-the-Month award of the season for his efforts in October and has since helped the Reds pick up successive home victories - against Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League and, last time out, in the 3-1 success against Brighton & Hove Albion, in which Scott netted our second goal.

Despite picking up an ankle injury, which forced him to withdraw from Steve Clarke's squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers, it is hoped the homegrown Academy product will be fit again soon.

Scott reacts to being named Player of the Month again and reflects on his recent landmark goal.

"In terms of the team, I feel we're much, much brighter," he told us recently. "The signs are good, the signs are positive and we've talked about things that we can improve on and how we're going to try to improve by the end of the season, which is the business end of the season as well.

"We always have meetings [to discuss formations and tactics], that's normal. It’s a normal thing to have meetings and for everybody to discuss, that’s a normal thing and the sign of a healthy dressing room. Boys speaking among it in the changing room, saying what they think we can improve on and what are good ideas as well.

"There’s plenty going on, it’s not a place to be quiet and in your shell. It’s time for people to really step up and start doing their jobs as well."

When asked if he felt the Reds were on the right course, he was adamant in his response and believes Anthony Martial's positive comeback shows the difference in having everybody fit and available.

"Yeah, for sure," he replied. "It’s difficult to say but with the injuries we’ve had, I do think we’ve coped relatively well with a small squad and a lot of boys playing a lot of minutes in a short space of time.

"I think people forget that we have had a lot of injuries as well, and you can see with Anthony coming back what a difference he makes. Which is what the manager has said about him as well.

Scott McTominay was hurt during the closing stages of the win over Brighton.

"There are very positive signs and things are changing. Everybody is looking forward to the next game and wanting that next game to come as soon as possible.

"Everybody wants to play and that’s the sign of a healthy dressing room."

Scott McTominay has become an influential figure in the heart of the midfield.

McTominay has featured in every Premier League game so far this term, and will be keen to keep up that record at Sheffield United on Sunday.

However, we are awaiting an update on his fitness from manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, when the manager addresses the media later in the week.
