Scott McTominay player of the month

McTominay voted United's Player of the Month

Friday 01 November 2019 15:00

Scott McTominay has been named Manchester United’s Player of the Month for October.

The Academy graduate, who also won the September award, was nominated after a series of impressive performances, particularly in the away wins over Norwich City and Chelsea, as well as the draw against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old scored our 2,000th Premier League goal during the victory at Carrow Road and took home 48 per cent of the vote on our Official App.

McTominay beat off competition from Marcus Rashford, who earned 39 per cent of the votes, and that is quite an achievement, considering the poll was launched just a few hours after the no.10's sensational free-kick at Stamford Bridge.

Summer signing Daniel James was also nominated for the prize and he finished third in the result with13 per cent.

Thanks to everyone who voted and well done to Scott!

‘HE’S A LEADER’

McTominay’s influence in the centre of United’s midfield is growing by the week and he is one of only three players to start every league game for us so far this season.

The strike against the Canaries was his standout moment in October, but he has also been impressive in terms of winning the ball back in midfield, with two tackles directly leading to Rashford goals against Liverpool and Chelsea.

“Scott's a leader, he’s a Man United boy, he’s come through the ranks,” praised Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during his press conference earlier today.

“You can tell he used to be a striker with the goal he scored against Norwich on the half-turn and he’s developing into a very good midfielder.”

‘UNITED’S BEST PLAYER’

Given Scott’s national allegiance, comparisons with ex-Red Darren Fletcher are inevitable and the former United midfielder had kind words to say about the 21-year-old this week.

“He has arguably been Manchester United’s best player this season,” Fletcher told Sky Sports on Wednesday night.

“You have to remember, when he was 17 was about five foot seven and playing as a no. 10. He ended up growing to about six foot three now and he’s actually started to become a bit of a goal threat.

“He is a big lad, he gets in the box and gets his shots off.

“He has been fantastic for Manchester United this season and really rising to the challenge of being a midfielder, getting on the ball and driving it forward.”
