Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Edinson Cavani is yet to make a decision regarding his future at Manchester United, despite various reports in the media over the last week.

The Uruguay international scored his 11th and 12th goals of the season last Thursday when playing a starring role in our Europa League semi-final first leg against Roma at Old Trafford.

El Matador, as he is affectionately known, is an immensely popular figure among fans and he even has his own chant to the tune of ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!’ by ABBA – despite the fact that Reds supporters are yet to watch him in the flesh due to the ongoing coronavirus restrictions. He also won our Player of the Month award for April.

As is often the case in modern football, the rumour mill has been swirling with contrasting stories about Cavani, linking him with both a return to South America and a second season at United.

Always professional, Edinson remains focused on his football and Solskjaer is using the lure of a packed Old Trafford to convince Cavani to extend his stay in Manchester, as the manager explained in his pre-Roma press conference.

“We have had some good conversations and even though the decision is still in his court, I'm still hopeful,” Ole told reporters via a video call. “Maybe more so when you see him against Roma and I tell him about doing that in front of the Stretford End. That's magic and I'm hopeful.”
Cavani is travelling to Italy later today (Wednesday) in preparation for Thursday’s important semi-final second leg against Roma, and it will be interesting to see if the no.7 starts at Stadio Olimpico.

Edinson played in Italy for Palermo (2007-10) and Napoli (2010–13), scoring nine Serie A goals against Roma – two in six games for Palermo and seven in six for Napoli, including a hat-trick in a 4-1 home win on 6 January 2013.
