Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Team news update for the Manchester derby

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update on his squad ahead of Sunday's Manchester derby.

While Edinson Cavani returned to the side for the midweek goalless draw with Crystal Palace, United were without another striking option as Anthony Martial missed that game through injury.

Midfielders Donny van de Beek and Paul Pogba also sat out our third consecutive stalemate, while Victor Lindelof was an unused substitute as he continues to manage an ongoing back injury.

Speaking to club media on Friday afternoon, the boss admits that the tight turnaround between Wednesday night and Sunday afternoon means he may not be able to welcome those players back when the Reds make the trip to the Etihad, even if he is hopeful of a few late comebacks.

“We’re still hoping to get one or two back of course,” Solskjaer told us.

“We can’t promise any of them being available that weren’t available in the last game against Palace.

“So we’ll go with the same squad if not.”

Solskjaer also confirmed that David De Gea has returned to Spain for the birth of his first child, so Dean Henderson will don the gloves on Sunday, as he did against Roy Hodgson's men in midweek.

“The beauty of having good players around is they’re ready to step in and Dean did really well against Palace and he’s done really well throughout the season,” added Ole.

Phil Jones and Juan Mata are still unavailable and will miss the encounter with Pep Guardiola’s side.

NEWS FROM CITY’S CAMP

Guardiola made six changes to his side for the 4-1 victory over Wolves in midweek, with John Stones, Sergio Aguero, Fernandinho and Phil Foden among the players who were afforded the night off.

At the moment, the home side’s only injury doubt is Nathan Ake. The Netherlands international has been struggling with a hamstring problem, and last played on Boxing Day, but is back in training as he steps up his recovery.
