Solskjaer: Tuanzebe was outstanding

Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe was singled out for praise by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, after our Europa League win over Granada.

The Academy graduate lined up next to Victor Lindelof, in place of the suspended Harry Maguire, as we progressed to the semi-finals of the competition with a solid 2-0 triumph at Old Trafford on Thursday evening.

Tuanzebe, who made his 15th first-team appearance of the season against the Spanish outfit, hadn’t featured for the Reds since the goalless draw with Real Sociedad at the end of February.

Against Granada, he showcased his ability on multiple occasions, running down opponents and heading the ball away from several set-pieces.

Following the 4-0 aggregate win and our third consecutive Europa League clean sheet, the boss was particularly impressed with Axel’s contribution.

“Top, absolutely delighted for him because he’s had a difficult spell,” Ole said during his post-match press conference.

“Victor and Harry have done really well, Eric when he’s played, has played really well so Axel has played fourth fiddle, if you put it that way.”

With first-team football hard to come by for the Rochdale-raised defender, the manager took time to applaud his defender’s work ethic after our triumph against Granada.

“He’s been very patient, worked very hard,” Ole emphasised.

“Tonight, I think him and Victor were our outstanding performers. They kept us from any real pressure. They defended whatever came against them and, towards the end, there were a couple of corners there and Axel headed the crosses away. I’m delighted for him.”
