Solskjaer's team news for Toffees visit

Friday 01 October 2021 13:30

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer held his pre-match press conference on Friday, for Saturday's Premier League visit from Everton and gave an update on the condition of his Manchester United squad.

The Reds got through Wednesday’s dramatic 2-1 win over Villarreal in the Champions League without any further fitness issues, although with less than 72 hours between the two games, Solskjaer may seek to make a few changes to his side.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is available once more, with the right-back having served the first of a two-game European suspension in midweek.

There’s also good news regarding Marcus Rashford, with the forward now having returned to training for the first time since shoulder surgery, although he's not yet match fit.

Luke Shaw missed Wednesday’s game through a combination of illness and injury and Ole is not yet sure whether the left-back will be available to feature.

Ronaldo, van de Beek and De Gea were all topics of conversation during the Everton pre-match media briefing...

“Luke feels better in himself. He’s been ill but he’s still got the shoulder injury,” Solskjaer said.

“We’ve got to make a decision on him. Marcus trained fully for the first time today with contact. There were a few tackles flying in on him and he seemed okay, which was nice to see.”

“Marcus is fit, he's worked really hard, but he’s not had any contact [until now],” Ole added, in a separate interview with club media.

“If his shoulder can take the contact now, he should be ready after the internationals.”

Reds captain Harry Maguire is still missing after suffering a calf injury during last Saturday’s defeat to Aston Villa, with our Ivory Coast winger Amad being the only other absentee.

“Harry is still out and Amad is still out. We didn’t lose anyone on Wednesday night,” confirmed Ole.

OPPOSITION TEAM NEWS

Everton boss Rafael Benitez held his pre-match press conference on Friday and confirmed that four of his regular starters would miss the trip to Old Trafford.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Seamus Coleman have both been out in recent weeks with thigh injuries and, while they have resumed training, they are not yet fit enough for first-team football.

“They started on the pitch little by little but they are not ready for this game,” said the Spaniard.

Richarlison and Andre Gomes have also been ruled out of contention, while Alex Iwobi is a doubt, although England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford should return, while midfielder Jean-Pierre Gbamin - an international team-mate of United's Amad and Eric Bailly - is fit again.
