Ole reveals team news for semi-final derby

Manchester United will be without Edinson Cavani again for the visit of neighbours City in the Carabao Cup semi-final at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

The Uruguay striker is serving the second part of his three-game suspension and will also sit out Saturday's Emirates FA Cup third-round encounter with Watford.

Reds boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer provided an update on the shape of his squad ahead of the midweek encounter with the Blues, and Victor Lindelof should be fit again after suffering a recurrence of a back problem.

"We're disappointed not having Edinson involved," said Ole. "But he's probably the only one not [available] and, of course, Phil Jones has been out for a long time. They're the only two not available for selection, which is a good position to be in.

“We're confident. We're going into the game in good form so there's no excuses. The squad is focused and we're ready to give it a go. We've prepared well for this game."

United are out to finally end City's dominance in the competition, after going close at this stage last season when, despite a 1-0 second-leg win at the Etihad Stadium, we were knocked out 3-2 on aggregate.

The Blues have lifted the trophy in four of the past five years, with only the Reds breaking up that run, when overcoming Southampton in the 2017 final.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are at home to Championship side Brentford in the other last-four tie, which takes place tonight [Tuesday].

IN THE BLUE CORNER

City were without several players due to COVID-19 protocols but still brushed Chelsea aside last weekend. Blues defender Eric Garcia was one of those to miss out and Zack Steffen made his Premier League debut in goal, replacing Ederson.

Kyle Walker and Gabriel Jesus recently contracted the virus but Sergio Aguero came off the bench at Stamford Bridge, after his injury issues, and could start in attack. Aymeric Laporte has had some hamstring trouble.
