What’s happening this week at United?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men have two Premier League fixtures coming up this week, as we welcome Sheffield United to Old Trafford on Wednesday before travelling to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal at the weekend.

Casey Stoney’s Reds, our Under-23s and our Under-18s are also in action, and there are several important anniversaries to remember, especially one about a certain Portuguese magnifico.

Here’s how the week shapes up…

MONDAY

The week starts off with a formidable defensive partnership. Harry Maguire is the latest guest on UTD Podcast, and the episode with the skipper will be available from 17:00 GMT on the streaming platform of your preference.

It is also 15 years ago since Nemanja Vidic made his debut for the club in a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers The rock-solid Serbian played 300 times for the Reds and captained us for a trophy-laden four seasons. 

TUESDAY

Attention turns to our next opponent, Sheffield United, and Reds manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will preview the encounter with the Blades in his pre-match press conference. WEDNESDAY

It's matchday! We enter the second half of the league campaign with Wednesday night's clash, where three points will help maintain our place at the top of the table. The battle between the Reds and the Blades starts at 20:15 GMT and, as always, you can follow the game across our various club platforms.

This day also marks Lee Grant's birthday. Everyone at the club would like to wish the goalkeeper many happy returns as he turns 38.

It is also 27 years since the funeral of legendary United manager Sir Matt Busby.

THURSDAY

We will look back at the previous night's game as the squad recover and prepare for another fixture coming up at the weekend, against Arsenal.

Seven years ago, Juan Mata made his debut for United, against Cardiff City, who at the time were under the management of a certain Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Spaniard looked lively in his first Old Trafford outing, in which the Reds ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Robin van Persie and Ashely Young, with Mata setting up the latter.

FRIDAY

Ole will preview the battle with the Gunners as he faces the media for the usual Friday pre-match press conference. Here, the boss will deliver the latest news ahead of a tough fixture on the road and could give some indication as to which XI will start in the capital.

On this day four years ago, Axel Tuanzebe made first-team his debut for United, coming on as a 68th-minute substitute in our 4-0 FA Cup win over Wigan Athletic.

SATURDAY

The latest chapter in a Premier League classic will be written as United and Arsenal go head-to-head in North London. The 234th meeting between the historic clubs will kick off at 17:30 GMT on Saturday, and Ole's men will be out for revenge after the Gunners' 1-0 victory at Old Trafford earlier this term.

United and Liverpool will meet again this weekend, but this time it our Under-23s going to battle with our arch-rivals, with kick-off at Liverpool's Academy set to 13:00 GMT. Our U18’s also return to action with a 11:00 GMT kick-off against Burnley at Leyland County Ground. You can watch the U18's live on MUTV.

Saturday also marks the one-year anniversary of the arrival of Bruno Fernandes. The transfer from Sporting Lisbon was announced on this day in 2020, and what a signing he has been - 28 goals and 18 assists in 51 appearances speaks for itself.

SUNDAY

We round off the week with some Women’s Super League action as United travel to Merseyside for an encounter with Everton at Walton Hall Park. The sides have met previously this season, in the Continental League Cup, where the Toffees were 1-0 winners. Casey Stoney will hope for better fortunes this weekend, as we look to remaining the hunt for the WSL crown.
