Tour 2019: The story so far

Friday 18 January 2019 16:52

There are less than six months to go until Manchester United make an eagerly-anticipated return to Australia on Tour 2019.

Here’s everything you need to know about the pre-season games we have announced so far and how to book tickets.

We're going to Australia... how many times have we been before?
This will be our fifth trip Down Under. The first was in 1967 when Sir Matt Busby's team toured the country, playing eight friendly matches. The last time we visited Perth was in 1975.

Where will our matches be played?
Only two games have so far been announced, both of which will take place at the new world-class Optus Stadium in Perth on 13 and 17 July.

Who are we playing against?
The first match of Tour 2019 will be against the current leaders of Australia's A-League, Perth Glory, with the second fixture coming against our old foes Leeds United.

Leeds are currently on track for promotion to the Premier League. Does that add extra spice?
While our historic rivalry with the Yorkshire club will be slightly cooled in Perth, given it's a pre-season friendly, the chance to play our old foes is an intriguing prospect. Given that Leeds are currently four points clear at the top of the Championship, it seems a real possibility that we could play them home and away in the league next season, so our meeting in July will give the Reds a first opportunity to assess Marco Bielsa’s team and now-famous tactics.

What happened on Tour 2018?
Last summer United headed to the States, where we played Club America and San Jose Earthquakes in Arizona and California respectively. The Reds then faced European legends AC Milan, Liverpool and Real Madrid in the International Champions Cup, before ending Tour 2018 with a friendly in Germany against Bayern Munich at their state-of-the-art stadium, the Allianz Arena.

Can we buy tickets for the Tour 2019 games?
Yes, tickets are available for both games here, and a two-match pass can also be purchased.
