The UEFA executive committee have made several announcements ahead of the Champions League group stages.

The Reds are back in Europe's premier club competition and are eagerly awaiting the draw next month.

It has been clarified that up to five substitutions will continue to be allowed in the Champions League and Europa League for the remainder of the 2020/21 season. Consequently, the number of players allowed on the match sheet will be increased to 23.

The Premier League currently permits three substitutions per game.

The UEFA Youth League will not commence until March 2021, with more details to be released in due course.

The Under-19s competition is to feature straight knock-out matches from the round of 64 and not mirror the senior group fixtures, as has previously been the case, due to travelling and organisational difficulties amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

There are also changes to the international calendar that will affect a number of United players.

The March and September international-match windows next year are to feature three matches rather than two. The UEFA Nations League finals will be played on 6/7 October 2021, with the final and third/fourth-place play-off scheduled for 10 October 2021.

Italy, the Netherlands and Poland have expressed an interest in hosting the finals.
