Victor Lindelof

United Briefing: The key to our away record

Thursday 20 May 2021 08:00

Victor Lindelof believes Manchester United's resilience and ability to bounce back from going behind has been the key to the unbeaten away run in this season's Premier League.

The Reds will go the whole of the 2020/21 campaign on the road unbeaten if we can avoid defeat on the final day at Wolves on Sunday. Only Preston North End and Arsenal (twice) have ever managed to achieve this feat in the English top-flight.

Lindelof feels this is down to team spirit and a never-say-die attitude that has come to the fore under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“Yeah, of course," replied Victor, when MUTV's Stewart Gardner suggested to him it takes some doing to go the whole season unbeaten away from home,. "Especially in the Premier League it’s very, very hard. Every game is tough and to go and win, or not lose, away is a great accomplishment. It also shows, like I've talked about, as a team the way we have improved.

“If we concede a goal, we know we can come back and win the game. I think if we just keep working hard and doing the things we’re doing, we can do some great things.

"It’s been a lot of games, a very tight schedule," he added. "It’s been [taxing], not just for your body but for your mind as well. It’s been a mentally tough season. I think we have been performing some really good football. Obviously, we maybe could have won some more games but, overall, it’s been an okay season. Hopefully we can finish strong and win some silverware.

“That would be great, but, you know, I don’t want to say it’s a great season. Obviously, we haven’t won anything so it’s difficult to say that but we’ve been performing some good football and, as a team, I think we have grown a lot and I think we have become even better. Hopefully, we can take that with us into next season and perform even better, but I can’t say it’s been a great season because we haven’t won anything yet.”

WHAT'S HAPPENING TODAY?

It is a year since the Reds returned to training after the first lockdown - and what a frenetic 365 days it has been for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men!

The focus is very much on our final Premier League fixture of the season - at Wolves on Sunday afternoon and we'll be preparing for the game in the usual fashion, with Ole's press conference an earlier one than usual on Friday morning.

WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY?

We reflected on the 1-1 draw with Fulham with everybody still talking about Edinson Cavani's wonder goal. The Uruguayan's long-range effort got our All the Angles video treatment and we also reported how the South American's 10th goal in the division helped United set a Premier League record.

It was also great to see Robin van Persie and Rafael respond to the individual trophies won by Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw on social media.

There was also an announcement over how Old Trafford is helping to ensure the Women's Euro 2022 tournament becomes a record-breaking one, plus confirmation on details of the next Fans' Forum.
