Manchester United will open the 2019 STATSports SuperCupNI tournament in Northern Ireland with a friendly against Rangers.

The Reds have strong links with the competition and have previously played showcase fixtures to kick off the event against a Northern Ireland XI and Celtic.

It will be an Under-21s contest against the Gers, with the fixture taking place on Saturday 27 July at 17:30 BST.

The Coleraine Showgrounds is hosting the friendly, which will be useful preparation for the Reds at a level we will be involved in during the season in the EFL Trophy.

United will also be competing in the junior stage of the SuperCupNI tournament.

The competition's chairman, Victor Leonard, said: "The introduction of the challenge game was very much an experiment and we are delighted that it has continued to be popular the fans who support our tournament in huge numbers.

"It is an entertaining way to kick off the competition with the parade of competing teams following the next day ahead of the week’s competition."
