Solskjaer's update on Henderson's condition

Saturday 07 August 2021 17:14

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update on Dean Henderson’s condition, after the goalkeeper tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this summer.

It was confirmed on Monday that the Academy graduate would miss the squad's week-long training camp in Scotland because he was still feeling the effects of the virus, after initially testing positive a few weeks earlier.

Henderson was therefore not involved in Saturday’s entertaining 4-0 win over Everton at Old Trafford, where the Reds produced a rampant performance that included goals by Mason Greenwood, Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot in front of 55,000 supporters.

Jesse Lingard also missed the victory after it was announced that he has also tested positive for coronavirus and, as a result, is isolating in line with Government and Premier League Guidelines.

During the post-match press conference at the Theatre of Dreams, one journalist asked Solskjaer to provide an update on Lingard and Henderson.

“Jesse, he feels okay, and hopefully it’ll stay that way but when you get the positive test you’ve got to isolate even if you’re feeling well,” explained the manager to reporters.

“Dean, he was positive early on and then he’s negative in his testing but he’s not felt as energised or sharp as he has done. So he’s still fatigued and feeling the after effects. So, you never know, you’ve seen so many effects of this virus, so he’s got a few days still to rest and then we’ll check up on him.”

David De Gea started the match against Everton on the 10-year anniversary of his United debut and it appears likely he will retain that spot for the Premier League opener against Leeds next Saturday, although nothing has been confirmed by the manager just yet.

We all wish Dean well in his recovery and look forward to his return.
