April's Goal of the Month: Vote now!

Tuesday 04 May 2021 15:27

Voting for Manchester United’s April Goal of the Month competition is now open.

After an action-packed period for our men’s, women’s, Under-23s and Under-18s’ sides, there are 13 nominees for you to choose from.

You can watch the full shortlist in our video above or scroll down to find out more about each goal.

MARCUS RASHFORD V GRANADA

The connection between Victor Lindelof and Rashford was so quick, the Spanish television director almost missed it! The Swedish centre-back pinged a lofted ball over the Granada defence, for our no.10 to slot calmly past goalkeeper Rui Silva.

ANTHONY ELANGA V WEST HAM (UNDER-23s)

Although the game would ultimately end in a disappointing defeat, this was a brilliant goal as the Swede characteristically motored down the left wing before cutting inside and curling the ball into the top-right corner.

ALEJANDRO GARNACHO (2) V STOKE CITY (UNDER-18s)

The Spaniard netted a hat-trick in this demolition of the Potters, with the second a clear standout. Garnacho barrelled in from the left, before playing a neat one-two with Charlie McNeill and lifting it past the Stoke keeper.

EDINSON CAVANI V TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Edi had already been denied a wonderful effort in north London, due to Scott McTominay’s perceived foul on Son Heung-min, but this was classic Cavani as he launched himself headfirst at Mason Greenwood’s brilliant first-time cross to put the Reds ahead.

EDINSON CAVANI V GRANADA

Cavani was at it again four days later in our Europa League quarter-final second leg victory. Alex Telles’s cross was nodded back by Paul Pogba and Edi connected with a brilliant first-time volley.

ELLA TOONE V BURNLEY (WOMEN)

United’s Women stuck six past Burnley in the FA Cup victory at Leyland last month, with Toone’s looping strike from the edge of the box – after a flowing team move – the pick of the bunch. It was also the 200th goal scored by Casey Stoney’s Reds!

MASON GREENWOOD (1) V BURNLEY

Memories of a frustrating first half against the Clarets were immediately blown away after the break, with a goal containing three excellent Reds’ contributions. Rashford sold Matt Lowton a dummy on the left, Bruno Fernandes fooled the opposition defence without touching the ball, but the glory went to Greenwood, who slammed in at the far post.

SHOLA SHORETIRE (1) V CHELSEA (UNDER-23s)

The 17-year-old evoked flashes of Dennis Bergkamp with his recent opener against the Blues, controlling Charlie McCann’s pass into the box before turning inside, holding off the defender and firing into the net.

Mason Greenwood’s dynamite!

April 2021 was arguably Greenwood’s best month in a United shirt so far, as he netted five goals in seven games…

ZIDANE IQBAL (2) V WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS (UNDER-18s)

A wonderful solo goal from our young midfielder, as he picked up the ball 25 yards out and avoided the attention of numerous Wolves players before effortlessly converting his second of the game.

CHRISTEN PRESS V TOTTENHAM (WOMENS)

World Cup winner Press showed her predatory instincts with this goal, ghosting in at the near post to nod in Toone’s cross.

ISAK HANSEN V SUNDERLAND (UNDER-18s)

Another entry for our free-scoring Under-18s, as Hansen picks up the ball on the edge of the area, dribbles beyond several Sunderland players and finds the space to convert.

BRUNO FERNANDES (1) V ROMA

This was yet another example of a Reds trio combining to brilliant effect. Pogba marched inside, despite being dogged by three Roma defenders, and laid the ball off to Cavani, who turned it round the corner with his left foot, allowing Fernandes to dink it into the bottom corner.

EDINSON CAVANI (1) V ROMA

With the Reds reeling at the break, a quick riposte was required and that’s what we got. Again, Pogba was involved in the build-up, but it was Fernandes who laid the chance on a plate for Cavani to gleefully dispatch.
