Watch United Women v Liverpool on MUTV

Friday 27 September 2019 14:35

Live women's football returns to MUTV this weekend, as Manchester United Women face Liverpool in our third Women's Super League match of the campaign.

Despite consecutive defeats in our opening two fixtures against Arsenal and Manchester City, it has been an encouraging start to the campaign for United Women, who pushed last season's top two close in both matches.

This weekend, however, gives us the opportunity to get our first three points on the board, as we face a Liverpool side that are also in search of their first win having lost their opening two games. It will be the second time that we have faced the Merseyside outfit, having emerged victorious in our first-ever competitive fixture in August last year.

You can book your ticket for the match at Leigh Sports Village by clicking here, and if you can't be there in person, join us for the match by subscribing to MUTV now.

THE SEASON SO FAR

The WSL fixture list has not been kind to United, with our first two matches coming against last season's top two teams. The Reds ran Manchester City close on the opening day of the campaign, undone by a piece of brilliance by City's Caroline Weir. Jackie Groenen hit the post, and Jane Ross was denied a first goal for the club by a brilliant piece of goalkeeping from Ellie Roebuck.

Our first home game against reigning champions Arsenal was also a tight affair. Mary Earps pulled off a number of great blocks in her home debut, but was ultimately beaten in the final minute of regulation time, as Danielle van de Donk struck home to break United hearts.

As for our opponents, Liverpool opened their account with a home defeat to Reading, before having a player sent off in an away loss to newly-promoted Tottenham Hotspur.
