Match preview: United v West Ham

The meeting pits together two of the Premier League’s current top six and the winner will book a spot in the last eight of the competition.

The Reds beat Watford and Liverpool to make it to this stage, while the Irons have eliminated Stockport County and Doncaster Rovers en route to the fifth round.

HOW CAN I FOLLOW THE MATCH?

The match at Old Trafford kicks off at 19:30 GMT on Tuesday evening and will be broadcast live in the UK on BBC One. In addition, MUTV will provide build-up, live radio commentary and post-match reaction, as well as showing full reruns of the game the following day. The Match Day Live programme on MUTV starts at 18:25 GMT.

CUP RULES

Whatever happens on Tuesday, a winner will be determined by the end of the night. That’s because there are no replays in this season’s competition, and if the game ends in a draw it will be determined by extra-time and, if needed, penalties. In addition, VAR will be in operation at Old Trafford, while both sides can name nine substitutes and are able to use up to five.

TEAM NEWS

Ole confirmed that Paul Pogba will be out for a few weeks after picking up a muscle injury in the weekend draw with Everton. “He's just started his recovery, working with the medical staff and we'll get him back as soon and as safely as we can,” the boss told club media, in the same interview in which he explained that Eric Bailly and Phil Jones will be absent. Ole has selected Dean Henderson between the sticks in both previous FA Cup matches this season, while the boss could rotate his side with the game coming just three days after Saturday’s encounter with Everton.

As for the Hammers, they’ll be without Jesse Lingard who has impressed since completing his loan move to the London Stadium last month. The midfielder is cup tied. Although one man who could feature is Tomas Soucek, who has had the red card he was shown against Fulham at the weekend overturned. David Moyes also confirmed in his pre-match press conference that striker Michail Antonio is a doubt and will have a late fitness test ahead of the game.

FORM GUIDE

United head into this one on the back of Saturday’s disappointing draw against Everton, where a last-gasp Dominic Calvert-Lewin goal denied the Reds all three points. Despite that, we’ve won six of our last nine home matches in all competitions and have scored 16 goals in our last four at Old Trafford. The Reds also haven’t been eliminated from the FA Cup at Old Trafford since 2015, when Arsenal beat us 2-1 at the quarter-final stage.

As for West Ham, they drew 0-0 at Craven Cottage at the weekend, but prior to that had won their last four away games across all competitions. The Hammers have impressed this term - they currently sit sixth in the Premier League table and travel to Old Trafford with just one defeat in their last 11 in all competitions.

DANGER MEN

Tomas Soucek and Declan Rice are among one of the most formidable midfield partnerships in the division and their physicality and defensive nous have thwarted numerous sides this season. In the attacking areas, Jarrod Bowen caused the Reds plenty of headaches when we travelled to the London Stadium in December and will look to cut inside on to his stronger left foot if selected on Tuesday night.
