Lucia
Biography
A proven goalscorer, Garcia joined the Reds from Athletic Club in July 2022.
Having been spotted as a 13-year-old with potentially lots to give in the game, Lucia Garcia has seen a euphoric rise, becoming an international goal-getter in Spanish football. Beginning her career with Oviedo Moderno, the striker found the net 19 times in 63 appearances, having made her debut as a 15-year-old back in 2013. Moving on to pastures new with Athletic Club in 2016, the Barakaldo-born forward would go from strength to strength with her side, featuring in the Champions League as well as increasing her tally in front of goal. Making 161 appearances and scoring 63 goals, Garcia aided the team to a highest league finish of third in 2017/18, while also reaching the Copa de la Reina semi-finals twice. Having also won the 2015 UEFA Women's Under-17 Championship and the 2017 UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship with Spain, the 24-year-old has been capped 36 times for her national side so far, scoring nine times. Arriving after competing at the 2022 European Championship with her nation, Garcia described joining United as "a dream come true" ahead of the 2022/23 season and said: "There’s a great family atmosphere at the club, which is the exact environment in which I thrive. I will give everything I have on the field to make our fans proud, and hopefully score a few goals as well!” It didn't take long for her first Reds goal to arrive, coming in just the second game of the WSL campaign, away to West Ham. It was against the same opposition that the Spaniard netted a brace versus at Old Trafford, in a 4-0 win, later in the term.
