Fernandes reacts to winning Player of the Year
TranscriptBruno Fernandes reveals when he fell in love with the United supporters...
Of course. For me, it’s really important. When you come, of course you want to win some trophies for the team, for the club and for the fans. But, obviously, I’m happy with the individual trophies. For me, individual awards are always important. I know you can say: ‘Oh, I don’t care’ and everything but it’s always important for a player. You always feel good when you win these kind of awards and I am no different. I am really happy. I want to add to this so many trophies for the club and for the fans because I think they deserve, and we deserve as a team, to win some trophies. I know, when you play for a club like Manchester United, you need to win some trophies. We appreciate you’ve probably not had much time to reflect because things have been so hectic but you settled in so quickly and to win the award in surely the quickest time, after only 14 Premier League games, takes some doing… Yeah but, for me, what was important was the help that I had from everyone here in the club. Of course, my team-mates, the staff and everybody were really important in settling down really quickly because they helped me a lot. This trophy, or the most part of it, it’s for them. They helped me really quickly to be ready for the Premier League; to be myself, you know; to enjoy my game. And that was really important for me. For the example, in the very first game [against Wolves], I heard a song the fans did for me. When you arrive, you know it’s your first game and you don’t think, at this point, you’ll have a song or something like that. That day, they liked me and showed they are here to support me in everything. So I need to give something to them, you know. Of course, I feel they want to win trophies so I hope, in the future, I can achieve some trophies for them.
