Irwin predicts a tight game against Leicester
“It is up to us to grab the bull by the horns,” says Denis Irwin ahead of United facing an in-form Foxes side…
What are you expecting? "I am expecting a tough game. He has set them up very well, Brendan, with goals in Vardy, creativity in Maddison, agility and experience dotted about, a good goalkeeper of course in Mr Schmeichel and they are a good team. They won the league four years ago, of course, and that was great for the Premier League. They have not really maintained a level I thought they would maintain, but I see them as a challenger for the top six this year. They will be a difficult side to beat. They don't concede many goals and they actually don't concede many chances. We will have to be at our best and in a tight game here at Old Trafford, we got have to make sure that when those chances come along we make the most of them." Will they sit back like Palace? "No disrespect to Palace, but Leicester have got a bit more about them. They played a style at Chelsea where they will defend, quite happily sit there, and then they will break. They are quick on the break as well. Maddison has been a real plus for them as well. So they might sit back, but they will be solid. Brendan likes to set up that way and they will be hard to break down. It is up to us to grab the bull by the horns. When we are in control of games, we need to create chances, take those chances and move on. We have been in winning positions and not finished it off. The plus side is that we've controlled the four games, created more chances and conceded less chances. We are sitting here with five points and there is a bit more pressure on the game against Leicester, but we are looking forward to it."
