James has mixed emotions in defeat
See what Daniel James had to say, after scoring his second goal for United in the defeat against Palace...
Is it a dejected dressing room? “Yeah I think you can agree it’s similar to how we came away Monday night, we felt like we lost and obviously we did today. After we scored the equaliser we were in control and we feel like we could’ve gone on and won.” Great moment for you to get the goal but do you feel dejected because of what happened after? “Obviously I’m delighted to get the goal and that’s something I want to keep improving on and keep doing, but at the end of the day it’s a team game and we didn’t win the game today so obviously I’m disappointed.” After you scored, was there still time? “Definitely, after we scored there were three or four minutes to go, the crowd were behind us and we were in control to and get another but unfortunately they’ve hit us on the break and scored.” Penalty - couldn’t have done more, did you worry it wasn't going to be your day? “It was a great strike, I think he was unfortunate but as you’ve seen in the game we’ve gone on and got the equaliser and were in control that whole second half. First half I don’t think we were up to the races, but in the second half we were a lot better and should’ve come away with more.” What was the message at HT? “To get the ball down and play. First half we were a bit slow on it, in the second half we were a lot quicker, especially for the pen we got - great play between Anto and Scotty and obviously got the pen from there. It was a lot quicker and we were getting in behind a lot more.” Do you dread going behind to a team like Palace because they put everyone behind the ball and are hard to break down? “Yeah but I think even at 0-0 or 1-0 up against Palace they’re going to do the same thing so it’s something that we’ve been working on. We knew they were going to be behind the ball, whether we were down or we were up so it was just about breaking them down. As I said, first half we didn’t do that but second half we definitely did especially to get the goal, and it was just about going on from there and getting the winner but unfortunately we didn’t.” Will it feel like a long week? “Of course, we want to redeem ourselves but obviously the game isn’t until next Saturday now. This game is something that we’ll look back on and look at what we could’ve done better, but we’ve got to go into that Southampton game next week and it’ll be a completely different test and we’ve got to be ready for it."
